Work is continuing on the CIA outdoor platforms. Under construction is an elevated walkway, also called a skywalk. Students will be able to catch the breeze from on high. They can sit up there and chat, read a book, enjoy the silence and meditate, or study for their next class.
One of the principle viewpoints here at CIA is that our students are immersed not only in a quality educational programme but that the environment in which they learn is relaxed and conducive to pedagogical achievement, to thinking out-of-the-box. Therein lies one of the biggest differences between western and eastern educational methods, and our job in the English Department is to prepare those students wishing to study for the next step of their educational odyssey.
We have an IELTS programme for students who plan to study abroad. We give them mock exams and tutor our students how to avoid the pitfalls of this most difficult exam. One of the foreign teachers has devised a simple way to encourage and train the students here how to deal with discussing a topic for one to two minutes with only a one-minute preparation window. More on that to follow.
